Required — "Is drip edge flashing required on the eaves and rakes? Yes, minimum size 4 inches by 2 inches on eaves and 2 inches by 1 inch or D style edge metal on rakes." A Drip Edge inspection is required for asphalt/composition roofing materials.

Impact-resistant roofing
Not required — Unincorporated Douglas County does not require impact-resistant (UL 2218 Class 4) roof coverings. Resolution No. R-026-021, adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on March 24, 2026 and effective July 1, 2026, which adopts the 2024 International Residential and Building Codes with amendments for the unincorporated area, was reviewed in full, including its complete IRC amendment list; it contains no impact-resistance or UL 2218 requirement. The county's only roof-covering material standards are fire classifications — the Douglas County Wildfire Resiliency Code (Section 403.1) and the Wildfire Mitigation Standards (Section 6-2) both require a Class A roof covering tested to ASTM E108, UL 790 or NFPA 256 in wildland- urban interface and Wildfire Hazard Overlay areas, which is a fire rating and not a hail-impact rating. The county's IRC amendments touching roofs address drip edge flashing, roof drainage, roof recover and the deletion of the wood shingle and wood shake sections.
Repair permit threshold
"For minor repairs or replacing less than one (1) roofing square (100 square feet) of the roof, a permit is not required. Each separate structure on a property requires a separate roofing permit if repairs exceeding one roofing square (100 sq ft.) or replacement is required. Exception: One-story detached accessory structures, provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet."
Roof layer limit / recover
