A third-generation, Hill family quarrier and manufacturer of Vermont roofing slate, with quarries and facilities operating in Vermont and New York State. Ernest I. Hill began production at a Poultney, Vermont quarry in 1955; the business was incorporated in 1980 as Quarry Slate Industries and later renamed Greenstone Slate Company, and it has since acquired the Penrhyn Hill quarries in Middle Granville, New York and the Briar Hill Quarries. It manufactures roofing slate in its Poultney facilities and states that all of its slate colors meet the S1 grade of ASTM C406.
