HailFire is Greenstone Slate's premium natural Vermont slate roof, offered in Architectural Grade (3/8 to 1/2 in.), Heavy Grade (1/2 to 3/4 in.) and Estate Grade (at least 3/4 in.) slate in all Greenstone colors. Greenstone states the slate was lab tested against 2-inch hail weighing 0.3 lbs at 120 MPH and achieved an FM 4473 Class 4 impact rating, that it is ASTM S-1 rated and Miami-Dade approved, and that it is backed by Greenstone's 100-year warranty. It is normally installed on the SlateTec interlayment system, which the sell sheet says reduces headlap and roof weight by up to 40 percent (under 8, 10 and 14 lbs per sq. ft. for the three grades) and makes the roof walkable, and whose interlayment is stated to achieve Class 3 impact testing on its own; the sell sheet notes it can also be installed traditionally.
