Roofing Permitting Authorities in Rhode Island

Rhode Island requires anyone who works as a contractor on a home, roofers included, to register with the state Contractors’ Registration and Licensing Board under R.I. Gen. Laws chapter 5-65, with exemptions that include work on a person’s own residence and a casual or minor job under $500 by someone who does not advertise as a contractor, while the separate roofing contractor licence in chapter 5-73 covers only commercial and industrial roofing, not homes of four or fewer units, and a city or town may not require its own contractor registration or licence beyond a general business licence fee, and the Rhode Island State Building Code applies in every city and town, which state law bars from enacting building codes of their own — always confirm the current requirements with the authority before starting work. 39 permitting authorities in Rhode Island, each linked to its own sourced record.
