8.05% combined, and the City publishes the component table itself: Colorado state 2.90%, RTD 1.00%, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District 0.10%, Arapahoe County 0.25% and the City of Englewood 3.80%. Englewood is home rule and self-collecting, so the 3.80% is remitted to the City and the remainder to the state. The city rate has been 3.80% since 2023-01-01, being a 3.50% general rate plus an additional 0.30% for PURPOSE; the combined rate before that was 7.75%. THE USE TAX IS THE NUMBER THAT MATTERS ON A ROOF, AND IT IS NOT THE SAME AS THE SALES RATE. The City's combined USE tax is 7.80% rather than 8.05%, because the Arapahoe County line is 0.00% instead of 0.25% -- but the City's own footnote closes that gap for construction: while the County imposes no general use tax, it does impose a 0.25% use tax on motor vehicles and on construction/building materials, and county use tax on construction materials is paid on building and mechanical permits. So a roofing permit does pull the county quarter-point back in. Englewood states plainly that construction materials are subject to use tax in the City, and that for permitted work the construction use tax is paid as a deposit of 50% of the valuation at the time the permit is obtained. It also states the provision that keeps a contractor from paying twice: the City's sales tax does not apply to the sale of construction and building materials, as defined in C.R.S. 29-2-109, if the purchaser picks the materials up and presents the retailer a building permit or other documentation acceptable to the city showing that a local use tax has been paid or is required to be paid. One Englewood-specific trap: the City lists construction materials for ALL jobs as taxable, with no exemption for exempt property sites, so a job for a school, church or government owner is not automatically materials-tax-free here.
