Adopted code
The town's SAFEbuilt Residential Asphalt Shingle Re-Roofing Requirements state the current code is the 2018 IRC, including ice and water shield from the eaves to 24 inches inside the warm wall, tear-off when two or more roof covering layers exist, drip edge on all edges, and double underlayment for pitches between 2:12 and 4:12.
Drip edge
Required — The town's SAFEbuilt Residential Asphalt Shingle Re-Roofing Requirements handout: "Drip edge required on all edges including rakes." Platteville Code of Ordinances § 18-10-30's current, exhaustive 2024-IRC amendment list (reviewed in full for this record) does not separately amend R905.2.8.5. About drip edge
Ice & water shield
Required — IRC Table R301.2(1) as filled in by Platteville Code of Ordinances § 18-10-30 lists "Ice Barrier Underlayment Required Yes". Corroborated by the town's own SAFEbuilt Residential Asphalt Shingle Re-Roofing Requirements handout: "Ice and water shield IS REQUIRED from the eves to 24" inside the warm wall." About ice & water barrier
Impact-resistant roofing
Not required — Platteville Code of Ordinances § 18-10-30's current 2024-IRC amendment list was read in full (lettered items (a) through (kk), ending cleanly on its own history note "(Ord. 550 §13, 2003; Ord. 2007-606 §4; Ord. 780, 6-4-2019; Ord. 848 §5, 12-2-2025)") and contains no UL 2218 or Class 4 impact-resistant-shingle mandate. The town's own SAFEbuilt re-roofing handout likewise does not mention impact resistance.
Wind design criteria
IRC Table R301.2(1) as filled in by Platteville Code of Ordinances § 18-10-30 (Amendments to the International Residential Code, current 2024 IRC adoption per Ord. 848 § 5, 12-2-2025): "Ground Snow Load 30psf" / "Wind Design Speed(mph) 115 mph / Topographic Effects No / Special Wind Region Yes / Windborne Debris Zone No" / "Seismic Design Category B".
Roof layer limit / recover
The town's SAFEbuilt Residential Asphalt Shingle Re-Roofing Requirements handout: "Where the existing roof has two or more applications of any type of roof covering all old material must be removed." Platteville Code of Ordinances § 18-10-30's current, exhaustive 2024-IRC amendment list does not separately amend R907/R908.
Sales & use tax
5.9% combined sales tax (state 2.9% + Weld County 0%, no county sales tax + Town of Platteville 3%). The Town's construction-materials use tax is only 2% — lower than its 3% sales rate, an asymmetry uncommon among other Colorado towns in this record set — and is the roofing-relevant figure for materials brought into town without sales tax already collected. Re-verified 2026-08-27 against the January 2026 edition of Colorado Department of Revenue form DR 1002, read from a rendered image of its tables rather than from extracted text: the state, county and city figures above match that edition exactly. Where the text above names the June 19, 2019 revision of DR 1002, that describes the edition the figure was originally taken from and is not a current citation.
