Adopted code
The City of Azle's Permits page states that "the Azle City Council approved Ord. No. 2026-04, which adopted the 2024 International Building Code, 2024 International Residential Code, 2023 National Electrical Code, 2024 International Plumbing Code, 2024 International Mechanical Code, 2024 International Energy Conservation Code, and the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code as the official municipal codes of the City," effective March 3, 2026. Ordinance No. 2026-04, Section 2, states "The 2024 International Residential Code is hereby adopted as the official residential code of the City of Azle, Texas," amended by the local amendments in its Exhibit B. The Permits page gives May 4, 2026 as the date the adopted local amendments take effect.
Drip edge
Required — Drip edge is required at eaves and rake edges of shingle roofs (IRC R905.2.8.5). The City adopted the 2024 International Residential Code by Ordinance No. 2026-04; that instrument, read in full, does not amend R905.2.8.5, so the code's drip-edge requirement stands as enacted local law. About drip edge
Ice & water shield
Not required — Exhibit B (Amendments to the 2024 International Residential Code) of the City of Azle's Ordinance No. 2026-04 prints No for the ice barrier underlayment entry in its amended Table R301.2. About ice & water barrier
Impact-resistant roofing
Not required — Ordinance No. 2026-04 with Exhibit B, the City's amendments to the 2024 International Residential Code, read in full, contains no UL 2218, Class 4 or impact-resistance provision. The City's Roofing page states "Class 4 impact-resistant roof coverings are not required by the 2024 IRC or by the City of Azle's locally-adopted amendments."
Wind design criteria
Table R301.2 as filled in by Exhibit B (Amendments to the 2024 International Residential Code) of the City of Azle's Ordinance No. 2026-04 ("Table R301.2 Climatic and Geographic Design Criteria; fill in as follows"): wind design speed 105 mph (3-second gust) at 33 ft above ground, Exposure C; topographic effects No; special wind region No; windborne debris zone No.
Roof layer limit / recover
Ordinance No. 2026-04 with Exhibit B, read in full, does not amend the reroofing section (R908), so the adopted 2024 International Residential Code's own rule applies: a roof recover is barred "Where the existing roof has two or more applications of any type of roof covering." (the Exceptions block of R908.4 in the 2024 edition). One existing layer may be recovered; a second forces tear-off.
Sales & use tax
8.25% combined everywhere in the city (6.25% state + 1.25% City of Azle + 0.25% special-purpose district (Azle Crm Con Dist) + 0.5% special-purpose district (Azle Mun Dev Dist); or 6.25% state + 1.25% City of Azle + 0.5% Parker County + 0.25% special-purpose district (Azle Crm Con Dist), depending on location), per the Comptroller's local sales tax rate file. Comptroller Publication 94-116, Real Property Repair and Remodeling, states that "Labor to repair, remodel, or restore residential real property is not taxable" and that under a lump-sum contract "you pay tax on all your supplies, materials, equipment, and taxable services when you buy them. You don't charge your customer tax." On a lump-sum residential re-roof the rate therefore falls on the roofer's material purchases, not on the homeowner's contract price.
