Pre-made cedar hip and ridge caps listed by Watkins Sawmills on its roofing pages, made from the same red cedar as its labeled shakes. Number 1 Grade Blue Label units are made from Number 1 Grade sawn shakes and Number 2 Grade Red Label units from Number 2 Grade sawn shakes, in 18 and 24 in. lengths, 5/8 or 3/4 in. thick and at least 9 in. wide, 20 units per bundle. Watkins says hip and ridge exposure should not exceed the field exposure and that a tapersawn unit is used on both shingle and shake roofs in many areas.
