VB Defender is a mechanically-attached synthetic roofing felt priced to compete with #15 and #30 asphalt felt, marketed as virtually untearable and non-absorbent to resist wrinkling, with a cooler-working, enhanced- walkability surface. It ships in 48 in. wide, 10-square rolls (56 rolls per pallet). Its own code-and-standard-compliance table cites ASTM D226 Type II, ICC-ES AC207 (Acceptance Criteria for Polypropylene Underlayments), CSA A123.3, ASTM E108/UL 790 Class A fire, and CSA 220.1, with reported MD/CD grab strength of 119/109 lb and tearing strength of 22/19 lb per ASTM D751 and a coefficient of friction of 0.3-0.50 per ASTM D1894. It is approved for asphalt glass-fiber-mat and organic-felt shingles, standing-seam metal, tile and slate, in vented and non-vented applications, and carries a 50-year limited warranty.
