Adopted codeBorough of New Milford - Building Department
No, Borough of New Milford, NJ does not require a permit for like-for-like roof replacement (Borough of New Milford - Building Department). No permit is needed under state law to reroof a detached one- or two-family house; a townhouse, other attached dwelling or any other building in New Milford needs one from the Borough's Building Department. The Borough's fee ordinance, Section 10-1.3, says "Fees for roofing and siding: for one- and two-family dwellings, no permit required," without the state rule's word "detached." Where a roof permit is required, it prices roofing and siding as follows: "All other use groups shall be computed on $20 per $1,000." The same section says "Basic minimum permit fee for each and all subcodes shall be $65" and sets plan review at "20% of the amount charged for the construction permit." The Building Department's page quotes the general permit rule, N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.14, and says "If in doubt whether or not a permit is required, please call: (201) 967-5044 Nicole x 5415 or Maureen x 5560." Under the Borough Code, "The public shall have the right to do business with the enforcing agency at the Municipal Building, 930 River Road." Building inspections are on Tuesday and Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; "Please call the office at least 24 hours in advance to schedule an inspection and have your permit number available." The Department's Construction Permit Checklist says "All information must be completed on the construction folder (signed) for all Technical Subcodes" and asks for the cost of the job.
