No permit is needed under state law to reroof a detached one- or two-family house; a townhouse, other attached dwelling or any other building in Dennis Township needs one from the Construction Department at 571 Petersburg Road (P.O. Box 204), Dennisville, construction office 609-861-9700 ext. 229. The township lists office hours of Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and summer hours of Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Fridays; the department says "In-person permit pick up accepted Monday thru Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m." Where a roof permit is required, Section 80-5A(1)(b) of the township code prices work that cannot be measured by volume: "Fees for renovations, alterations and repairs or any other construction which cannot be computed in cubic feet shall be $45 per $1,000 of estimated cost of work. The minimum fee shall be $65." The schedule names no separate roofing fee, and "State of New Jersey mandated training fees shall be collected as required by N.J.A.C. 5:23-4.19." The department asks applicants to "provide the permit number when scheduling an inspection," and says "Anyone submitting a construction permit application for work in a campground should include a map of the campground with the location of the unit clearly marked." The Uniform Construction Code's permit rule, N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.15(b)9, reads: "If work involves a home improvement performed by a contractor, such contractor shall be registered pursuant to N.J.S.A. 56:8-136 et seq. The registration number of the contractor shall appear on the permit application."
