The international labor union for roofers and waterproofers, whose members apply low-slope and steep-slope roofing systems, including vegetative and solar roofs, structural waterproofing and air barriers. It traces to slate and tile roofers and composition roofers unions chartered by the American Federation of Labor in 1903 and 1906, which merged in 1919, and took its present name in 1978. Local unions across the country run jointly sponsored labor-management apprenticeship programs, generally three to five years long.
