A venting unit skylight that opens and closes by remote control on a battery charged by a small solar panel attached to its base, so it needs no wiring; an acoustic rain sensor closes it at the first sign of rain. It is offered in deck-mount and curb-mount versions (VSS and VCS) and pairs with the VELUX ACTIVE with NETATMO smart-home control. VELUX states that its flashing is required to create a weathertight seal around deck- and curb-mount skylight systems and to qualify for the 10-year installation warranty, and its tile flashing kits (EDW) are not available for the VSS. VELUX states 20 years on glass, 10 years on product and 5 years on shades and controls.
