Solatube's line of conventional (non-tubular) residential skylights, sold as Premium Fixed skylights and as solar-powered, remote-operated Fresh Breeze venting skylights whose built-in rain sensor closes the unit when rain is detected. Both use a dual-pane insulated glass unit with a Low-E tempered outer pane, a laminated safety inner pane and an argon-filled 14 mm spacer, set in a powder-coated aluminum frame with integrated thermal barriers, and both offer clear or SoftLight diffusing glass and optional pleated skylight shades. Solatube positions the series for replacing old acrylic skylights. Its skylights page and brochure print Class 4 hail/impact resistance per FM 4473 (a 2 in. ice ball at an estimated 32.7 m/s) for all standard sizes up to 4 x 4 ft; the web page renders the ice ball size as 2 degrees where the brochure prints 2 in. Solatube's limited warranty gives the skylights 10 years on metal frame and PVC components and hinges, 20 years on the insulated glass against internal condensation, and 5 years on the solar motor assembly, excluding labor.
