Color-matched snow guards made by Reinke Shakes for its aluminum and copper shingle roofs, formed from double-laminated .020 aluminum with a Kynar coating and at least 3 1/2 in. wide. Reinke's detail sheet states each guard holds back more than 100 pounds used singly (tested halfway up the guard), and that guards can be stacked under the same screws to add about 100 pounds of capacity per added guard. It calls for four self-drilling screws penetrating at least 5/8 in. into plywood or solid wood, rows at 12 in. on center, a first row on the third course of shingles and a staggered second row on the sixth course.
