Roofing Shakes

Western Red Cedar roofing shakes from Miller Shingle Company with split faces and sawn backs, made by splitting blanks from old-growth logs and running them diagonally through a band saw to give two tapered shakes. The Number 1 line runs from 18 and 24 in. medium shakes (about 1/2 to 5/8 in. average butt) to heavy shakes (3/4 in. to 1 1/4 in.) in Premium (100 percent vertical grain) and Regular (80 percent vertical grain) grades, each square covering 100 sq. ft. at 10 in. exposure for 24 in. or 7 1/2 in. for 18 in. shakes. Hand-split taper split shakes and barn shakes are made to custom order, and fire rated and CCA treatment are available.
