Bleed Blocker Primer is a single-component, all-acrylic, water-based primer that the product page lists for BUR, tar and gravel, and smooth or granulated asphalt surfaces, to stop asphalt oil bleed-through and discoloration of acrylic and silicone top coats; it is applied by spray, roll or brush and sold in 2-gallon, 5-gallon, 55-gallon and 275-gallon packages. Its technical data sheet calls for a minimum of 4 dry mils (about 1 gallon per square) over asphalt substrates, with two coats sometimes needed over un-aged asphalt. The sheet lists total solids by weight of 27.5 percent (ASTM D-2369), a density of 8.76 pounds per gallon and VOC of 37.5 to 50 grams per liter.
