Secure Start Permeable (SKU 1040) is Malarkey's breathable synthetic underlayment, meant to shed water while letting moisture trapped by poor attic ventilation escape. It is polypropylene-based with embossed non-woven scrims top and bottom and a monolithic vapor-permeable membrane laminated between them, and it goes under asphalt shingles, wood shakes and shingles, metal and mechanically fastened tile. The data sheet gives a 48 in. by 250 ft. roll (10 squares), 32 mils nominal, 36 lbs. per roll, 16 perms by ASTM E96, up to 90 days of UV exposure and a 2:12 minimum slope. It lists a Class A fire rating to ASTM E108 when installed with a fire-rated roof covering and a 10-year product warranty against manufacturing defects when installed on its own.
