Kalwall Skyroofs
A translucent roof system of insulated fiberglass-reinforced sandwich panels on an aluminum or thermally broken composite I-beam grid core, flat or curved, installed with an aluminum clamp-tite system. Pre-Engineered Skyroofs (shed roofs, ridge roofs, pyramids, barrel vaults, low-profile vaults and 90 and 180 degree Kalcurve vaults) span up to 24 ft on thrust-bearing curbs without added framing, while Custom Skyroofs set the panels over a sub-structure by others. Panels come 2-3/4 in. or 4 in. thick and weigh about 2 lb per sq ft; the maker cites U-values down to 0.05 with its Lumira aerogel panel. The maker's Section 084523 guide specifications call for the system to pass the UL 790 Class A burning brand test, with a UL-listed Class A roof as an option, and for ASTM E661 fall-through testing to OSHA 1910.21. Windborne-debris versions to ASTM E1886/E1996 (up to Large Missile D) and FM 4471 Class 1 configurations of 2-3/4 in. skyroofs are offered only with specific face sheets and details; removable skyroofs are also offered.
