GreenGrid Layered Green Roof System
GreenGrid's Layered Green Roof System is its built-in-place alternative to the modules, for unusual roof shapes, slopes, custom soil depths or tightly specified plant and stormwater goals, with layers cut and shaped on site. Components are vegetation (sedum tiles or mats, perennials and ornamental grasses), regional growing media blends, a drainage layer chosen from eight options, an optional 1 in needled mineral wool layer for water storage, and an optional root barrier in three thicknesses, typically used with non-sedum planting. Standard media depths are 4, 6 and 8 in or deeper; the maker lists saturated weights of 25 to 30 lb per square foot at 4 in, 38 to 45 at 6 in and 50 to 60 at 8 in, noting that weights vary with media, retention layers and plants.
