A blue-black natural roofing slate from the Las Fuentes quarry in Spain, which CUPA PIZARRAS states has been operating since 1985 and has supplied the US market since 2008, with almost one million pieces a year and more than 2,500 CUPA 14 roofs installed in the United States. It is produced at a standard thickness of 7.5 mm (1/4 to 3/8 in.) and can be produced thicker. CUPA states it is certified S1 under ASTM C406, has been approved as a replacement for Buckingham slate by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and the National Park Service, and is backed by a 100-year guarantee issued by the producer. Published test values: water absorption 0.24% (W1), non-carbonated (0.30%), MOR 43 MPa transverse and 38 MPa longitudinal, SO2 exposure S1, thermal cycle T1, freeze-thaw pass. CUPA's range page describes CUPA 14 as dark grey with a riven surface, while the CUPA 14 page describes its classic blue-black color.
