The starter piece installed at every eave line under the first course of CeDUR synthetic cedar shakes, one of the three components (starter, field shake, hip and ridge) the CeDUR site names for a roof. The size and coverage sheet shows a single 15-inch size with two fastener locations per piece, while the installation recommendations say to secure each 15-inch starter with four corrosion-resistant fasteners, with the starter and first course overhanging the fascia equally, typically 3/4 inch to 1 inch.
