Cedar Breather is Benjamin Obdyke's patented three-dimensional ventilation mat for use beneath wood shingles and shakes (and under metal roofing) to keep an airflow and drainage space between the solid deck and the roofing, replacing furring strips; the maker recommends pairing it with Rapid Ridge 7 and VaporDry SA. The physical properties sheet (issued January 1, 2024) prints a 0.285-inch thickness, 171 lb per square foot compressive stress at 10 percent strain, ASTM E84 flame spread index 10 and smoke developed index 75 (Class A surface burning), 30 days of UV exposure, and 39-inch by 61.5-foot rolls weighing 12 lb. The older sell sheet prints the same roll at 9.7 lb and about 0.27 inch. The product page offers a 25-year product and labor warranty for the Cedar Breather system.
