Registration details
  • license: All contractors engaged in construction work, including repairs, alterations, and renovations of any building or structure, must be registered under Section 4-7-2 of the Vail Town Code prior to undertaking any construction work or applying for any type of permit. Contractors must provide proof of competency through a passing score on an ICC trade-specific national exam or an accepted equivalent (B.E.S.T. certification, Denver Supervisor Certification, or a state exam or license from another state).
Permit process note
Any exterior work on a structure, including reroofing, must first obtain Design Review Board approval before a permit is submitted. The Design Review Board must find the proposed roofing material satisfactory in general appearance, quality over time, architectural style, design, color and texture, and compatible with the structure, site, surrounding structures, and overall character of the Town of Vail.

The 2021 ICC codes, including the building and residential codes and updated International Energy Conservation Code requirements, were adopted as the Vail Town Code on July 5, 2022.
