Registration details
  • license: A contractor license is required for any person or corporation that receives compensation for construction or remodeling work within the City of Sheridan. Applications are submitted by mail or email to the Permit Technician, the fee is collected upon acceptance, and licenses are issued by mail on the first of every month.
Permit process note
No roof overlays are allowed on residential projects; complete tear-off and replacement is required. Rolled roofing is prohibited (modified bitumen peel-and-stick is acceptable), ice and water barrier is required on lower roof eaves extending a minimum of 24 inches inside the heated space, and tile roofs require an engineer's report confirming structural adequacy. Manufacturer wind warranties must meet or exceed 100 mph.
Inspection requirements
Mid-roof and final roof inspections are required for all projects. Ladders set for inspection must be a minimum Class 2 and extend at least 2 feet above the roof edge.
Adopted code
All roof replacements must comply with the 2021 editions of the International Residential Code and International Building Code. The basic wind speed for the City of Sheridan is 105 mph for the 3-second gust (90 mph fastest mile).
