Registration details
  • license: Effective June 1, 2022, a Town of Severance contractor license is required before an over-the-counter permit will be issued or a permit sent to plan review; general and trades contractors must submit a completed application plus proof of competence (ICC exam passage, or current license/registration from a governmental entity requiring ICC testing; electricians and plumbers must provide their Colorado State and Master's license) and a certificate of insurance naming the Town of Severance as certificate holder, with minimum coverage of statutory workers' compensation, $100,000 per occurrence / $300,000 aggregate commercial general liability, and $300,000 combined single limit auto liability. Homeowners are exempt unless performing work at more than one residence in a given year.

Building permits are required for houses, buildings, decks, roofs and re-roofing, some fences, fireplaces, sprinkler systems, remodeling, basement finishes, garages, sheds, and heating/air system installation. The town only accepts online permit applications; a permit expires 180 days after the last inspection or any sign of inactivity or abandonment.
