Registration details
  • license: Contractors working in the county are required to hold a current Morgan County Contractor's License; a Contractor Licensing Application is available from the Planning and Zoning Department. Every employer must also either carry Colorado workers' compensation coverage or file a rejection of coverage form.
Permit process note
When replacing or repairing a roof a Roofing permit is required; roofing permits for detached outbuildings (detached accessory structures) are not required. The county's Do I Need a Permit table lists re-roofing as requiring a Roofing permit with no land use or state permit needed. The county's basic permit threshold is any building that has a roof and is 120 square feet or larger.
Inspection requirements
A mid-roof inspection is required after the roof covering is removed. Inspections are requested through the Planning and Zoning Department at 970-542-3526 or the building inspector at 970-768-7197, and all work must be inspected and approved prior to concealment.
Adopted code
In 2010, Morgan County adopted the 2009 International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Energy Conservation Code and the International Mechanical Code.
