Permit process note
Building permits are now issued directly by City of Monte Vista staff rather than Rio Grande County. Applicants must first obtain an approved Site Permit from the Planning and Community Development Department, then submit a complete building permit application (form, construction plans, site plan, and landscaping plan if required) with 50% of the fee due at application and the balance due before permit issuance. Building valuation is calculated using ICC Building Valuation Data. Staff confirms application completeness within 10 business days and issues written notice of approval, conditional approval, or required revisions within 16 working days of a complete application.
