Registration details
  • license: All contractors are required to hold an active, approved contractor's business license before obtaining permits or performing any construction work in Lee's Summit. The license fee is $35, plus $35 per Master's Certification. Roofing contractors are classified under a dedicated category rather than the Class A-D general/residential classes: "Contractors performing roofing, painting, insulation, guttering, door/window replacement, lawn irrigation, and other similar work should be licensed as 'Contractor Other.'" Required documentation includes zoning approval, a business license application, a State of Missouri No Tax Due Certificate, a Certificate of Liability Insurance (minimum $300,000), and a Certificate of Worker's Compensation Insurance.

Re-roof permit applications are submitted through the CityView Online Portal, with a flat fee of $50. Wood shake roof applications must include proof that the roofing is at least a Class "C" fire-retardant roof.

Lee's Summit adopted the 2018 International Building Code, 2018 International Residential Code, 2018 International Plumbing Code, 2018 International Mechanical Code, 2018 International Fuel Gas Code, 2018 International Fire Code, 2017 National Electrical Code, and ICC/ANSI A117.1-2009, effective January 8, 2019. The city states it is in the process of adopting the 2024 Codes, tentatively effective by mid-summer 2026.
