The Town of Hayden does not run its own building department; building, electrical, mechanical, gas, plumbing, deconstruction, solar, sign, pool/spa/hot tub, and grade-and-fill permits for the town are issued and inspected by the Routt County Regional Building Department, which also serves rural Routt County, the City of Steamboat Springs, and the Towns of Oak Creek and Yampa.

  • license: Contractors must hold an ICC Contractor Certification (or Best Test Contractor Certification Card) for their applicable trade — separate residential, light-commercial, unlimited general contractor, roofing, and mechanical certification categories are offered — and must provide a Commercial General Liability Insurance Certificate with a minimum $1,000,000 of coverage naming the Routt County Board of County Commissioners as additional insured, plus workers' compensation insurance. State-licensed electricians, plumbers, manufactured home installers, and Colorado-licensed architects/engineers are exempt.
Permit process note
The Routt County Regional Building Department has a defined fee policy for residential and commercial roof replacement permits (effective 01/01/2024): the maximum residential roof replacement permit fee is $300.00 plus a $25.00 plan review fee, and the maximum commercial roof replacement permit fee is $500.00 plus a $25.00 plan review fee. This fee amendment applies only when no structural or framing changes are included with the roof replacement. Permit applications and plan submittals for Hayden properties are processed electronically through the department's County Portal (CityView).
