Registration details
- license: Gunnison County shall not issue a building permit until the required building contractor license has been issued (permits issued after February 1, 2023). Applicants must hold ICC certification obtained through Pearson Vue testing (exam codes G11, G12, or G13), carry general liability insurance of at least 1,000,000 dollars per occurrence plus workers' compensation, and licenses are valid for 36 months. Owner-builders and state-licensed electricians and plumbers are excepted.
Permit process note
Building permits are mandatory; construction work regulated by adopted building codes and fire and public safety regulations requires a permit before work can begin, including repairs which change or affect the structure of a building. Work must commence within 180 days of permit issuance and cannot be suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days. Gunnison County has no jurisdiction within city limits.
