Registration details
- license: Anyone doing work within the city of Glenwood Springs must be licensed, including subcontractors not employed by the general contractor. A license application is submitted to the Building Department; some license categories require a BEST (Board of Examiners Standardized Testing) card, all licenses require evidence of liability insurance at application, and worker's compensation insurance is required if the contractor has employees.
Permit process note
A roofing permit is required to put a new roof on a house. A homeowner may replace their own roof with one unpaid assistant without a contractor's license, but must still apply for a roofing permit. Starting work without a permit can result in required exposure of completed work for inspection and a monetary penalty attached to the permit.
Inspection requirements
Inspections are scheduled by calling the city's Inspection Hot Line at 970-384-6432 at least 24 hours in advance, providing the project address, permit number, requested date, morning or afternoon preference, and contractor contact information. The Building Inspector calls the morning of the inspection to set a time.
