Town of Georgetown Building Department

city

The building permit authority for the Town of Georgetown, the county seat of Clear Creek County. Building permit applications are submitted to and fees paid to the Town, but the Town contracts its building division services — plan review, inspections, and code enforcement — to SAFEbuilt. Because Georgetown is part of a National Historic Landmark District, many projects, including exterior/roof work, must also be reviewed by the Design Review Commission (DRC) for a Certificate of Appropriateness before a building permit is issued.

Permit process note
"Are you looking to do any major construction or renovation to a building in the Town of Georgetown? Please be aware that many projects will need to be reviewed by the Design Review Commission (DRC) prior to issuance of a building permit for a Certificate of Appropriateness. This is required since Georgetown is part of a National Historic Landmark District." Building permit applications are submitted through the Town of Georgetown (Town Hall, 404 6th St.), but "the Town of Georgetown contracts its building division services through SAFEbuilt," which has provided building department programs, plan review, inspections, and code enforcement "for cities, towns, counties and other public agencies" since 1992. Building permit fees are paid to the Town; inspection requests must go through the SAFEbuilt inspection line at least 24 hours in advance, with SAFEbuilt on-site in Georgetown Monday through Friday. The Building page publishes a submittal checklist that includes a dedicated "Residential Roofing requirements" document (alongside new-construction, remodel, asbestos, and solar checklists), indicating the Town/SAFEbuilt maintain roofing-specific submittal guidance. The Town's current Building Permit Application (revised 2025-05-27) lists "Roof" as one of its named improvement types, alongside new building, addition, remodel, repair/replacement, and fence. Separately, the Town's Business Licenses document center (under Business) lists a "Contractor License Application" alongside the general Business License Application, suggesting the Town runs a contractor licensing program, but the application PDF itself could not be retrieved (404) to confirm scope or roofing-specific language, so contractor_registration_required is likewise not asserted here.
Inspection requirements
Building inspections for the Town of Georgetown are performed under contract by SAFEbuilt rather than by Town staff. Inspection requests must be called in to the SAFEbuilt Inspection line (303-450-8748) at least 24 hours before the desired inspection date, and must include the permit number, address, contact person, and inspection type; callers are told to call a separate SAFEbuilt number (303-450-8745) on the day of inspection to learn the two-hour arrival window (not to schedule), and that number is also listed for technical building questions. SAFEbuilt is on-site in Georgetown Monday-Friday.
