Registration details
  • license: Effective June 30, 2025, the Building Department registers each contractor doing business within the city. Contractors must select a classification (Class 4 is General Roofing Contractor), provide proof of the associated ICC certification, and submit a Certificate of Insurance showing general liability coverage for the services performed.
Permit process note
The City of Fort Morgan requires a permit for all new roofing and roofing repairs over 100 square feet of roofing material, and the building permit or a copy must be kept on the work site until project completion. Roof re-cover is allowed up to two layers of asphalt or one layer of asphalt with a metal overlay; if two or more layers already exist, all layers must be removed.
Inspection requirements
A mid-roof inspection is required after all of the roof covering is removed to inspect the decking, and a final inspection is required after all permitted work is completed. Both inspections require a ladder on site and the contractor or homeowner present; inspections are scheduled at least 24 hours in advance at 970-542-3907.
Adopted code
The 2024 International Codes were adopted by Ordinance No. 1337 on June 16, 2026, along with the 2023 Colorado Model Electric and Solar Ready Code; the 2018 International Plumbing Code and Fuel Gas Code remain adopted. Electrical permits are issued by the State of Colorado.
