Registration details
  • license: Professional contractors must be licensed through the Town of Estes Park and must hold a current contractor license to apply for a permit; renewal is handled through the Community Connect account. A Town of Estes Park Business License is also required before doing any work in town limits.
Permit process note
All permits are obtained through the Community Connect public portal (residents register as a Community Member, contractors as a Contractor). Permit fees are based on project valuation per the Town's adopted fee schedule, with a plan review fee of fifty percent of the building permit fee and use tax calculated on 50% of project valuation at 1.05% (effective January 1, 2026); all fees must be paid in full before construction begins.
Inspection requirements
Inspections are requested and results viewed through the Community Connect portal; building division services (plan review and inspections) are performed under the Town's contract with SAFEbuilt.
Adopted code
Effective January 1, 2024, the Town of Estes Park follows the 2021 International Building Codes with local amendments, viewable in the municipal code. Local IRC amendments regarding vacation homes have been in effect since July 1, 2017.
