Registration details
- license: Contractors who pull permits in Elbert County must be licensed with the county under a 2023 policy; minimum requirements include proof of general liability and workers compensation insurance and passing an ICC test relevant to the trade. Roofing contractors must carry $300,000.00 in insurance.
Permit process note
Permits are required for all roof repairs greater than 1 square (100 square feet) and for roof replacements. The county publishes an over-the-counter re-roof permit application.
Inspection requirements
For re-roofs the county offers photo mid-roof inspections (with written property owner consent) or in-person mid-roof inspections, whichever the permit holder prefers.
Adopted code
Elbert County adopted the 2018 International Building Code and 2018 International Residential Code, along with the 2018 International Energy Conservation, Existing Building, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, Plumbing, Property Maintenance, and Fire Codes with local amendments, via Ordinance 22-01 effective April 13, 2022.
