Permit process note
"Dallas County issues permits only for properties located in the unincorporated areas of Dallas County. If your project or property is located within the city limits of a municipality, you must contact that city directly for permitting requirements and applications." DUAS's own list of applications includes a "Building Permit Application," described as "Required for the construction of new commercial buildings, including offices, warehouses, workshops, garages, and similar structures," and a separate "Notice of Residential Construction Application," described as "Required for new residential construction, additions, and major structural renovations." The same list also covers Addressing, Communications Facilities, Development Permit/Floodplain Development, Driveway/ Culvert, Mobile Home Placement, Right-of-Way/Utility, and Special Event permits, among others; re-roofing is not listed among the county's permit categories. All permits are applied for online through the county's MyGov customer portal.
