Permit process note
A building permit must be obtained prior to the start of any work within Town limits. Applications are submitted by email or through the online portal; deposits are due at submittal and fees when the permit is issued, and the Town asks applicants to allow a minimum of 20 business days for reviews.
Inspection requirements
The Town uses contract building and plumbing/mechanical inspectors, so inspections should be scheduled 48 hours ahead; electrical inspections are performed by the State Electrical Inspector. The Town's climatic design criteria require ice shield underlayment, with a 51-pound roof snow load and 110 mph wind speed.

The Town of Bayfield adopted the 2018 International Building Codes (building, plumbing, mechanical, gas, fire, energy, and electric codes) by Ordinance No. 487 on May 16, 2023.
